On Wednesday the Playstation Store removed a playable teaser for the newest game in the Silent Hill series. Konami has since confirmed that the game called Silent Hills is now cancelled. I'm not a huge fan of horror games. Not because I don't like being scared, but because I don't like excessive gore. Call me squeamish if you want, but sometimes its just excessive and for no other reason that to be excessive.
This game had me a bit more interested though. The game was a collaboration between Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear) and Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim) and would star voice acting from Norman Reedus (Walking Dead) All in all it seems like the perfect storm for a horror game.
The game was most likely canceled after Kojima and Konami got tired of fighting with each other for control of the game. The way I look at this is Metal Gear games are huge money makers, and that is most likely thanks to the brilliant game design from Kojima. If you hire someone to do a job, let them do it and get out of the way. I can't pretend to know what's going on behind the scenes at Konami, but they have a proven designer, a world class director, and a fantastic actor in a genre that is incredibly popular, and by all accounts the playable teaser was fantastic. Why is Konami meddling with this? Do they hate money?
In a hilarious twist, after pulling the demo off the Playstation Store, people began to put thier consoles on eBay with the demo on it. and they have been selling for around $1000 some as high as $1500. I can't imaging spending that kind of money for a demo, but hey who am I to judge.
