World Video Game Hall of Fame

In a move that surprised no one, Super Mario Bros, Doom, Pong, Tetris, Pac-Man and World of Warcraft have been inducted into the first round of the Video Game Hall of Fame at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY.

The games in the inaugural class of The Strong’s World Video Game Hall of Fame™ span multiple decades, countries of origin, and gaming platforms, but all have significantly affected the video game industry, popular culture, and society in general. Pong, Pac-Man, Tetris, Super Mario Bros., DOOM, and World of Warcraft have been selected from a field of 15 finalists that also included: Angry Birds, FIFA, The Legend of Zelda, Minecraft, The Oregon Trail, Pokémon, The Sims, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Space Invaders.

I'm sure there are some games on that list that surprise you that weren't inducted, but they can't do every game at once.  There will be more inductees later, probably yearly, and I'm sure that (Insert your game of choice here) will be inducted eventually.  I'm really glad that they are adding video games to this museum.  Many people look down on the significance of video games.  It is good that they are getting the recognition that they deserve.
