      • Hi RJS:
I wanted to give my input on the physical versus digital question.
I had a PS Vita and used it a ton. I had more than 60 games. Of those 60 I had about 12 cartridges and the rest were all digital.
I know this is very much a first world problem, but changing cartridges was a pain. I'm just saying I have really experienced this issue. Just consider over 4 plus years, playing 300 days a year.. that's 1,200 days.. and multiple games a day.. that can be thousands of cartridge changes.
So obviously the bad things about digital:
        1. They cost more, you can't get the good Amazon.com prices
        2. I had to buy my own 200GB storage card for $78
        3. If you get some bad games or finish a game you don't want, you're stuck with them and can't trade them in...
All 3 of those items add to not an insignificant amount of money, I.e. Hundreds of dollars more to go all digital..
The advantage of all digital: user experience.. it's more fun and easier and convenient.
For me, video games are all about fun, so yeah I'm splurging and making it a luxury item to go all digital and I'm glad I have.

      • JoeyBlaze88 said the podcast is the best switch podcast available.  If you’re a fan of the switch, this is a must listen podcast.  It’s twice a week so it's a fantastic way to keep up on the latest switch news.  The host gets right to the point and talks about all the latest news without it being drawn out for too long. Speaking of the host, he seems like a genuinely awesome guy.  I’m not sure if I want to go get a beer with him, or just have him read me a bedtime story (his voice is very soothing).  Keep up the great work with the podcast and thank you for taking the time to do this every week.

      • Squanto716 called the show a great Nintendo podcast.  Switch Craft is my go-to Nintendo Switch podcast.  The brief but more frequent episodes allow you to see what’s new with the Switch all week.  I love being able to fit entire episodes in as I walk my dogs.  Bill is honest about games, and not afraid to be critical of faults with Nintendo or developers.  Would love to see this podcast start gaining traction and maybe start getting some interviews with game developers, but please stop calling football, baseball and basketball software “sportsball games.” Totally get it of you're not a fan, but it comes off as mocking sports games and their fans.

  • Splatoon 2 update (Kelp Dome returns as a stage, a new stage called Snapper Canal is added, a new weapon called Tenta Brella joins the fray. The weapon functions as a mid-range weapon with the ability to spread out the umbrella to create a shield that protects you from enemy shots)

  • Fire Emblem Warriors (Lyn is revealed as a character, but no gameplay trailer, only her intro)

  • A third party-game called Snipperclips: Cut it out together was showcased briefly

  • A new 3rd person shooter called Morphies Law, console exclusive. Looks most similar to Splatoon 2, but with a completely different art style and a sizable amount of unique gameplay mechanics)

Demo will be released worldwide later today, and a survey is given on top of that. Release date is in 2018.

        • Thoughts in the Gameplay section

  • Dragon Quest Builders, Spring 2018 release date.

  • Main-Line Kirby side-scroller with a short 2 minute trailer, still no official title. Power combinations are back in this game in addition to 4 player. A Dedede boss was showed off quickly.

  • E-shop games were showcased: Steamworld dig 2, Golf Story, Frozenbyte, Battle Chef Brigade, Tine Metal, Super Meatboy Forever, Lost Sphear (apparently a Sqaure Enix title)

  • Sonic Forces very quick showcase

  • Two Resident Evil games were revealed super quick, but I believe they are older games, didn't manage to get the titles in time.

  • L.A Noire comes to Switch, with all added content.

  • Super Mario Odyssey was showcased with a lot of screentime. Narrated by Yoshiaki Koizumi. We got a showcase of gameplay: The World Map, the different Worlds/Kingdoms of the game, new World called Shiveria: an Ice level, new world called Bubblaine: A water level, a showcase of a tropical world, and a promise of other new worlds not seen in any trailers yet. Seemingly 100 Power Moons per level, but I'm not sure. A hint system that helps you locate Power Moons was showcased, as well as an Amiibo feature where loading an Amiibo will straight up reveal the location of a Power Moon on the world map. A deeper explanation of costumes and equipment in the game was given. There is a new Snapshot Feature where you can pause the game at any moment, change camera angles, add colors, black and white, basically a photo editor you can access at any point during the game, and your photos can seemingly be posted to social media through the console. General showcase of more gameplay and things Mario can possess with his cap. A hardware bundle with Mario Odyssey, a themed bag, and some themed Joycons was the last thing shown.

      • Chinese girl’s husband called the show a must listen podcast!  I see some people have been giving one star lately and I just don’t understand that.  Given, podcasts are up to a person’s tastes I think it's important to be objective.  I  can understand giving this podcast a 3 or 4 star if you prefer a different style.  As for me this is a must listen podcast, and I probably listen to 3-4 hours of podcast per day while I work.  This podcast has many qualities which I really like, starting with the host who is able to keep things brief and concise while getting across valuable information.  I would add to this for a one man podcast the production value is top notch.  The host has an excellent voice, great diction, and he is discerning about when to give the highlights of a topic or when to make a deeper dive.  He’s always topical to my interests at any given moment which is great.  I would also add that the demeanor of the host is great.  Not only is he fair and honest with his assessment, but he does a wonderful job of giving relatively objective information and goes out of his way to explain his possible subjective biases.  Tl;dr if you’ve got only 30 minutes to spare and want a thorough but brief recap of up to date Nintendo news, this is a must listen to Nintendo podcast!

      • Hey Bill,

Just wanted to send a message and let you know that I LOVE the podcast. To have a weekly podcast with only one person that remains so interesting each week is a real talent. I'm sure there's a good amount of preparation that goes into each episode, so thank you for taking the time to do it.

Like you, I have fond memories of playing the Colecovision when I was a kid (mostly Smurfs and Zaxxon). I'm wondering, what are some of your favorite games of all time? (From any system).  Do you have a game collection of any kind?

Thanks again for everything you do!

        • Hey RJS,
This is Vincent again. Thanks for playing my voicemail on air! It was cool to hear.
I teach fourth grade in a school district around Dallas. Of course, as soon as I hung up I thought about some other things I could have said- the switch is my first home console since the gamecube. Up until the switch came out, I just played my ds and 3ds and of that just mainly pokemon games. Part of the appeal of the switch to me was that I would be able to use it at school to play games with my kids- whether it be as an incentive or part of a lesson or something like that. Nothing like that has occurred in my class yet, but we will see. I have a vision of having my class play Mario Kart and collecting some sort of data on it. That would be pretty cool I think.
Anyway, I'll leave a review for your show on iTunes one of these days. Thanks for all you do for the switch community.’

        • 2 things:
          1) you said that if you buy the physical version of Resident Evil 1 and
2, you don't have to worry about the file sizes. I actually think I
remember reading somewhere that even the physical version would only
contain #1 on the cartridge and then a download code for RE2
          . Which of
course is horrible, and one reason I might pass on this.

          2) You asked what size MicroSD cards people had. I got 128GB because I'm
buying physical of everything I possibly can. Due to resale and
longevity I don't trust digital downloads. As a result, this is going to
affect my purchase decision of RE1&2.

        • This podcast is a homerun for me.  The host is extremely knowledgeable and articulate.  He is able to efficiently hit all the major news stories while adding some personal commentary.  His punctuality with posting new episodes is impeccable as well.   It is a great feeling to know which days I can always expect a new podcast about the Switch and know the content is going to be excellent.  I would rate this podcast higher than five stars if I could!  Keep up the great work.

      • Hey man,

Have started listening to your podcast. Love how articulate and succinct you are. I'm currently debating whether to take the plunge or not - I probably will 😉 - but just quickly... Where the hell is Switch Sports? Or a Mario Bowling? The thing that made the original Wii so popular. The thing that would show off the Switch and its controllers and would almost single-handedly sell an awful lot more units. Feels like a giant elephant-sized hole in the line up. Have you heard of anything? Tennis. Bowling. Air hockey. That sort of thing. Indy or otherwise.

Cheers, Keep up the good work.

      • The best Switch Podcast. Period.  Gather ‘round kids.  Let me tell you of why I think this podcast is the absolute pinnacle of Nintendo Switchery podcast perfection….First and foremost , RJS has the voice, the disposition, and maybe most importantly) a love for all things Nintendo.  Put all that together in a padded studio and you’re cooking with gas my man.  The show lasting on average 30 minutes is absolutely perfect for someone like me who is just about always slammed with work, traveling, or just trying to catch up on sleep, I can always squeeze in a half hour show to get caught up on the latest and greatest news within the Nintendo universe.  I really can’t say enough good things about the show;  it’s my all time favourite and I highly recommend it to anyone who is just as much of a Nintendo fan as I am.  Thanks again RJS. I wish you lots of success in the future.  I’ll be there supporting you every step of the way!

    • JCavuto gave 2 stars and said there are many better Nintendo podcasts out there

    • Sevin Korbo gave 1 start - Just falls short of what other podcasts bring to the table.  One person rattling off news by himself does not a good podcast make.  Yeah he has a nice voice, but I can’t stand it for so long, unbroken by any other voices or other opinion.  That’s what makes Nintendo Voice Chat so good, they have multiple people with diverse gaming backgrounds.  One person just can't cover all the Switch has to offer from a place of authority.

    • JJeco also gave one star - A little one note

    • Email

      • Karl Emailed - Hey there, hope you are well.
I have four friends who own a switch. Yet I'm the only one to have downloaded the Switch online app.  There reasons for not downloading is that it's very bare bones, and is not particularly useful.
I've come up with a couple of simple ideas which could entice people to use the app.

      • Access to the E shop, allow me to buy content, when I'm away from my switch.

      • Allow me to buy Amiibo data, and use my phones NFC to use data on my switch.  Some of the Amiibo are hard to find, and some folk do not want the figures. Having a digital collection with out the clutter but all the benefits would be great.

      • Access to my game screen shots. Take a pic in game, Up load to Lakitu (the Nintendo cloud) and have access to them on my phone, to do with as I want.

      • Most people take there phone everywhere, so have some sort of street pass, maybe swap friend codes of people you pass.

Are there any features you think would make the app better .........

      • I’ve listened to a lot of nintendo Podcast over the last few years, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to discover this one!  The quality, research, insights and pacing of this podcast are all perfect, and the run times of each episode never feel overwhelming.  I really enjoy the music and retro cutscenes that bring me back to my childhood as well!  I worked in radio for several years and know how hard it can be to run a solo show, but RunJumpStomp makes it seem easy, and that’s what a true testament to his talent.  I highly recommend this podcast to any Nintendo fan or anyone who enjoys video games.  Keep up the great work!

      • I think we can expect a top down Zelda, or traditionally portable games for the Switch based on this comment

        • “I wouldn’t necessarily consider a top-down Zelda or a side-scrolling Metroid games that have to be on a handheld, and there are of course people who like those kinds of games. And I think for Nintendo Switch I could definitely imagine those types of games appearing for it. At E3 this year a new side-scrolling Yoshi title was announced, and I imagine that going forward those types of games will be able to be played at home or on the go.” - Koizumi

Just a quick note to say how much I enjoy your SwitchCraft podcast. I've not been able to leave a review, my podcast service  does not do reviews.
I really like your more mature non bias approach to Nintendo related stuff. You are not afraid to point out when something is bad with Nintendo.

A couple of quick questions about Splatoon 2.

I really enjoyed the splat fests, but I hate giving my T shirt back, do you think it would be good to keep them ? the rest of the game gives out new clothing all over the place, yet takes your splat fests  T back as soon as the event is over. It would be nice in a couple of years to go over the collection just to see what splat fests you had taken part in.

Do you think they will ever add offline play for the multi player modes ? I.E play turf war with bots ? I play MK8D battle mode with bots all the time, and it's not too bad.

Please keep up the good work.

    • Jon sent in an email

      • Hey hey!
So my buddy came over this weekend for splat fest and we were chit chatting about Splatoon stuff. One of the conversations was about Salmon Run and playing it locally. We both love Salmon Run, and I love how you can get different things for playing Salmon Run (special shirts, hats etc.). My friend said "I wonder how and if the Salmon Run is different if you just play locally instead of playing online". Now the online Salmon Run, as we all know, is at certain times/days. Whereas the local Salmon Run you can do whenever. I just said, without really thinking, "It's probably the same thing, but I doubt you get rewards for playing it".  He quickly came back with (snobby voice) "Why would anyone play Salmon Run if you don't get anything for it?"

(I should also add that I really don't know how Salmon Run is different from online to local play; I didn't try it, but that’s not the point)

This brings me to the main point of this email.

I feel like we're getting more into this routine where online multiplayer games need to give you some sort of "rewards" for playing the game. I don't play many online competitive games, but thinking of games like Call of Duty or something, you level up your account, level up your weapons, etc. The game is always giving you something the more you play. You can unlock different mods for weapons, different gear or abilities. It's tough for me to think of an online multiplayer game that doesn't have a system like this. How important is it for new games to give you "something" the more you play?

Would Salmon Run be as fun if there were no rewards for it? Are we moving into a new time where we don't just play games for "fun" anymore? Do we need something to make all our work feel like it's worth it?

I'm curious to see where games go from here. I think it would be difficult for a new game to come out without some sort of level up system and unlockables. However, the main point of any game is to have fun and enjoy the time you invest into that game. When he said why would anyone play Salmon Run if you don't get anything for it, I wanted to slap him and say "Because it's fun!!!".

Anyway, this sounded way better in my head. I hope you get the main point I'm going for. I'd love to hear your take on this.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and thank your for all the entertainment.

        -Jon/Link31254
