People need to understand that for once, they are playing it pretty smart. If they give us minimal features, they can fix any glitches quickly. If they release all features instantly and have glitches on all features, bye bye Stadia. People will run their service into the ground before base launch. They’re already trying to call it another dropped Google project. There might even be too much on John’s mind to even give the answer you want to hear because of confusion from stress. I’ve been a YouTube TV subscriber since the beginning and it has come a long way. Any time there has been a glitch, I’ve received a free week of service even if I didn’t personally experience it. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. Quit complaining until you actually have something to complain about. 😁

Nick Zello

A question I had around Stadia Pro members was- If you were to purchase a game that then becomes the “free” game, would you be compensated in any way, or are the free games only going to be brand new (as in made available that week) to mitigate this happening?

I think pricing for new games on Stadia will stay consistent at around $60 for now. As you stated, the price of a game has remained fairly steady for decades, and publishers want to recoup development costs quickly.

One interesting thing to consider is that pricing in Japan is quite different. Every game is released at its own price point. For example DQ 11 S has an MSRP ~$88, BOTW ~$76, Mario Odyssey ~$65. I wouldn’t be surprised if a highly anticipated game eventually tries this here. How many people would cancel a game like Cyberpunk’77 over $10.  I don’t see this happening soon though

The app is developed using Flutter which is cross platform. Therefore the iOS app will look and work very similarly.

Hey, did you hear that the PS5 is supposed to be at 10.1 teraflops for the GPU while Stadia will be at 10.7?

Google has put too much money and time into Stadia to pull the plug in a year. The fear that I have is that Stadia is the new Google+ where they will flail around desperately to prop up their creation (YouTube integration comes to mind), gives up, lets it languish for years and finally put it out of its misery. And if that happens, we don’t know what happens to our access to our games.

Many modern routers already have traffic prioritization options (QoS). I’ve used them with mixed results. Many of them can prioritize either a specific device or a service (e.g. “YouTube traffic” or “Netflix traffic”). They haven’t always behaved well, depending on the router, but hopefully since Google has a vested interest in Stadia, this will pan out to be a good implementation. I expect other routers to have this option eventually, and even if they don’t have the service-level option specifically to target “Stadia traffic”, most modern routers will at least let you pick your Chromecast Ultra or other preferred device(s) to prioritize traffic

I don’t mind the cost of the game being £60 for a AAA title. However there has to be some assurances that these games will be playable indefinitely. Imagine sinking thousands of ££s into a library only for Stadia to shut up shop and you lose all your games.REPLY0 replies

Ross Taylor

Regardless of the port changes they need to do I don’t think it should be the same price even for a new game. I think they should follow steam as an example, they have to port a pc version yet games are normally cheaper than a standard console game, because we don’t actually own the game if we purchase on steam. I think new should be £10 less old games around the same or £5 cheaper…. point it, steam you don’t own the game, and you don’t on stadia.

What is Jade Raymond up to?

The role I’m filling as head of SG&E is building out all of the exclusive content for Stadia, We have a plan that includes building out a few different first-party studios, and also building up the publishing org to ship exclusive content created by indie devs and other external partners.

Jade Raymond

It’s very important for first-party games, in my opinion, to be games that wouldn’t be possible on any other platform,” Raymond says. “I think that’s what’s really exciting and why we’re building out the first-party teams.

There are a lot of things that being cloud native enables that you’re just not going to be able to see on other platforms, and I think that’s the job of first-party, to really show that off and let people imagine what those things are.

In terms of multiplayer, everyone is essentially playing in one big LAN party as far as the tech is concerned, There is no difference or constraints from an architecture perspective of how far the users are, or worrying about replication and all the other things that typically limit the number of people you can have in a game.

It is a long term view that Google is taking, For a big bet and a huge new IP that’s going to fully leverage the cloud, it may be several years. But we do have quite a few exclusive games in the works that will demonstrate some of the exciting things about the platform all along the path. It won’t be four years before gamers get to see the new exclusive, exciting content. There will be some coming out every year, and more and more each year.

I don’t like viewing STADIA as a PC or a Console, it’s a whole new beast that has aspects of both, with some entirely new features

Since Stadia has fixed hardware, I look at Stadia as a console 🙂REPLY

I’m thinking it’s a high end PC that I don’t have to upgrade. 😁 I’ll be playing Stadia primarily on my laptop and tablet.

My question to google (unanswered) is when can I setup my Stadia name?  It seems like I should be able to set up my name on the 19th and possibly play on my PC at that time with no issues since I did drop 140 dollars (with tax) for the founders edition.  It seems very odd that Google is now saying that they are going to start shipping on the 19th.  Hopefully we will get an email on the 19th with instructions on how to setup our stadia accounts and log in and play on our PCs since it looks like we will not have the controller with the Chromecast Ultra.  I would be interested if you and Lloyd can discuss this issue on the next Stadiacast.

Comment from TrzaReactor about RDR2’s framerate.

Hey Bill, that was my initial tweet to Phil Harrison. I was shocked to get a reply! In regards to RDR2 I believe if RDR2 is 4k60 capable on PC it will be on Stadia too. I can’t see why they’d provide a lower version when Stadia is more than capable of running the game at high levels and I’m sure the Stadia team wouldn’t be happy with an inferior version as it doesn’t put their platform in the best light. It’s not a good look if your promoting Stadia as a powerful system yet top tier games are no better than an Xbox One X version. I think rdr2 is 4k60 but we’ll have to wait and see. If it isn’t to me that’s a major fail!

Comment from Ichor De Dionysos

What I think, as they announced it now and it did not come up earlier, that this is the reason: They are already struggling to get everything ready by November 19th that they threw stuff out of their launch roadmap. Stuff like setting screens where you would select your input source. Stadia does not know on PC what I want to play with, the keyboard or the controller? This is way easier to decide if you check if a controller is connected to your PC or not. If connected use the controller, if not use the keyboard. I guess this is harder with the controller from a UX perspective.Show less

Hey guys. A few questions for your brilliant Stadiacast show. LOVE it btw! – The free games you get with a pro subscription; do you think those will be from the existing catalogue, or new games arriving? – Do you have to be a pro subscriber, the minute a free game is given, in order to get it, or can you as a base subscriber, get that game for free, if you go pro in the days afterwards? Cheers from Denmark, Klaus
