Upcoming Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Beta for PlayStation®4 and Xbox One Offers Four Quests, Including the Elder Dragon Velkhana

Ahead of the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne massive expansion’s global console release on September 6, Capcom today confirmed details about upcoming beta sessions, which offer four quest options for players to try at home. The Monster Hunter World: Iceborne PlayStation®4 beta will be available for all PS4™ users from 12:01am PDT on Friday, August 30 through 11:59pm PDT on Sunday, September 1. Following that, a beta for Xbox One will be available from 12:01am PDT on Monday, September 2 through 11:59pm PDT on Wednesday, September 4. Preload options will be available starting August 28 before each beta period begins. The Monster Hunter: World base game is not required to participate in the Iceborne beta sessions.

These pre-launch beta sessions for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne are cooler than ever with the addition of a frosty new challenge. Alongside the previously available Great Jagras (Beginner), Banbaro (Intermediate) and Tigrex (Expert) quests, players will be able to battle against the game’s mythical flagship monster Velkhana for the first time. Watch out though, this Elder Dragon’s icy breath is dangerous and offers a bone-chilling fight for even the fiercest of hunters.

Similar to previous beta sessions, hunters can test out all 14 weapon types in any of the four quests and the training area. The weapons include the new Iceborne features, plus the new Slinger tool options such as the Clutch Claw grapple mechanic.

Upon completing each quest for the first time, hunters can earn a total of four special commendation packs containing helpful consumable items that will be available to use in the full version of the Iceborne expansion when it releases. So, pack those Hot Drinks and join a hunting party to clear these quests!

Happy hunting!

NEWS

Story 1

Destin Legarie of IGN says he was skeptical about Stadia but he’s impressed.

Quotes

On Doom “having played it on PC I was really really curious, and I’ve been really cynical about Stadia, I mean their streams can’t even stop lagging, you know? So, I try it out and I think it sold me on Google stadia. It stuttered a little bit on a cutscenes but that was about it. The flow of combat still felt really good on the controller”

On Mortal Kombat “It seemed to be playing pretty well, I didn’t get hands on with that, but I was watching other people play they were executing their moves, they didn’t seem to be impacted by any sort of lag that a 60 fps fighting game would encounter”

On XCloud “I got to play Halo at E3 also, I don’t think Xcloud was as sooth, there was a lot hitching there was a lot of delay actually, they have a controller connected to a screen, basically and that was how you were playing a lot of the xCloud stuff, it seems like they have a little bit more work to do compared to the Google Stadia platform, which again really really impressed me……I think it might surprisingly (and I can’t believe I’m saying this, I thought there’s no way Google Stadia is going to be this functional, and I tried it out and Oh my god, this thing might be good!”

Destin Legarie of IGN

Story 2

Story 3

Max Scoville, Brian Altano and Tina Amini of IGN interviewed John Justice VP of Product at Google

They picked Doom Eternal and MK11 to show off Stadia because they are hard games to get right.

“Before people could try it, and see it, people wondered about it. There are things that we can do to speed it up where we run it to make it as fast or in some cases faster than you can by buying a console.”

On the possibilities with cloud “We’re constantly upgrading the servers. We’re constantly upgrading our servers, right now our machines are faster than anything you can buy in a console by a pretty good chunk, but we’re already working on the next, and the next and the next, as we constantly upgrade.”

Oh collecting and digital libraries – “It’s pretty much the same as everything digital today, except you don’t have to wait for downloads and updates, and its faster and better.”

On Crossplay – “The developers are usually pretty excited … We think that its a core of Next Gen. We just don’t think we should have the kind of walls that we’ve had in the past…. We want every single titile to have cross play / Cross progression

On the controller – “We’ve spent years and years on this, we had hundreds of prototypes. When you feel something like on the d-pad, the collapse on the dome switches. Its really hard to get that to be just right to let you roll combos.

On Bandwidth – “Project stream took 25 MBps, last year, but now we can get it down to 15 or even 10.”

Google VP of Product John Justice

On the Stadia Controller – “I really like the face buttons feel nice and soft, the d-pad is clicky, the sticks are really smooth, the shoulder buttons are great….I’m completely sold on this controller.”

Good Evening Bill. Yesterday I traded in my Switch for the newer version. My original Switch(which I’ve had since launch) has been bricked for well over a year. I held off simply because I play in handheld mode 90% of the time regardless. But… the upgraded chip had me at hello. GameStop gave me $175 trade credit for my Bricked Switch(which I was extremely happy with) and I switched Switches! The guy at GS said something about the screen running at a lower temp or something, but I can see a difference there as well. Not as much glare for sure. I am very happy with it, I transferred my thousands of hours of save data no problem. Just wanted to share my experience with you and show. I’ve been an every episode fan for a long time. Thanks for the Show! It’s the best Nintendo podcast out there.

Here’s a few if you’re still looking for them! For me a lot of them are great SNES games that were left of the SNES classic but I still wish were available for play somewhere. Licenses be damned.
Chrono TriggerSuper, Mario All Stars, Cool Spot, Actraiser, Final Fantasy IV (not on the snes Classic but incredible, influential, and defining RPG) Donkey Kong country 2 and 3, Super Bases Loaded 3: License to Steal, TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, Super Star Wars 1-3, Lufia 2, The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse

Hey Bill… just listened to NSC380. You mentioned that it was ok that the extra dock doesn’t include a power adapter since Nintendo is just using “standard” USB-C chargers now. That’s actually not correct. While USB-C is indeed a standard, Nintendo’s implementation of it is non-compliant and breaks the standard, which is why some third-party chargers were damaging Switches.

So it stands that Nintendo SHOULD be including a power adapter. Even it was compliant to the standard, anyone buying a spare dock likely needs a power supply as well. But really, Nintendo shouldn’t be breaking the USB-C standard to begin with.

Firstly I just like to say thank you your hard work and dedication for putting your content out there. I look forward to your videos, podcasts and streams for both Nintendo Switch Craft and StadiaCast every week.
Last Sunday while you were streaming we were discussing that I was experiencing Joy Con drift and you were interested in what Nintendo’s policy was for this in the UK. Well, I called Nintendo support and they told me they would repair the Joy Con at no extra cost if my Switch was inside the 1 year warranty. However, as I have had my Switch since launch this isn’t applicable to me. They told me they would cover shipping to and from them however it would cost £29-£35 to repair the Joy Con.
Thankfully they sent me an email with a troubleshooting guide and it seems to have worked.

Email from Charles

Hey I’ve got a question.

Me and a couple close friends logged into each other’s switches and e-shops. This gave each of us access to the others games which is awesome.

But when I select a game that they bought I have to choose their player icon for “who’s playing this game”

This makes me worried about messing up cloud saves.

YouTube Comment from Lee Lee Bird

I love indie games but for some reason i get indie burnout quicker than i get AAA burnout lol Many of these blended into another.. Ori looks like Hollow Knight At first glance. MY eyes are now towards a September Direct. Great job as always RJS!

YouTube Comment from Dean R English

Jump with the B button is my favorite and most important change. Personally I am going to play in 2D mode so resolution means nothing to me. I played a could hundred hours of DQXI and I thought it looked great undocked
