Hey Bill… I’ve been camping and off the grid, so I’m still catching up
on podcasts. This is in regards to you saying that the excessive game
sizes we are seeing in some games is due to the amount of recorded dialog.

I think you’re giving the game developers too much slack here. 1 GB can
store about 16 straight HOURS of music at typical quality, and dialog
could endure even higher compression. I suppose there might be games out
there with dozens and dozens of continuous hours of spoken dialog, but
my gut feeling is this is not typically the case since most dialog
snippets only last a few seconds. I do not feel it is the dialog
bloating these games, but simply lazy developers not using efficient
methods for all the other aspects of their games.

My response

I was pointing out one way that they could reduce the storage footprint of their game.

Compression (Some devs don’t do high compression in order to keep a steady framerate)

No one really cares how big the game is when they are making it. (especially a port on PC) They find out at the end during crunch and there isn’t time to fix it.

Hi Bill,Just wanted to hear your thoughts on the Zelda clone people are calling it ( Genshin Impact)? On PS4, me personally I’m actually looking forward to playing this I’ve been watching some gameplay of it and yes it’s clearly taking a lot of inspiration from breath of the wild but is that such a bad thing? more breath of the wild until breath of the wild 2? Sure bring it! I seriously doubt the switch will bring it onboard but I’m Curious on your thoughts? Love the show.Jermz 4 U

Hey Bill, hope you had a great vacation. Just wondering if you could give me some guidance and advice. I live in Ontario Canada and would like to go to the Nintendo store this year. One of my questions is where did you park your vehicle? Is there a parking lot near by? What hotel did you stay at and how far was it from the store? Did you Uber from the motel?. I’m sure most of these questions will be answered on your Podcast. Thank you for the great content and keep up the great work.

Email from John

Hey Bill!  I have a question for you, but before i do that, just wanted to let you know that I love your show (SwitchCraft) I’ve been listening to it about 6 months or more now, and I have enjoyed every episode.
So my question to you is, I know you mentioned on one of your podcast that you’ve been playing a lot of DQB2. And I also have been loving that game so much, that I’ve pretty much just been playing that since the release. I’ve been playing in handheld mode this whole time, except for today.  I notice that it seems to run slower when docked. Not sure what FPS, but I can definitely tell that its slower then handheld.   Have you notice this as well? If so, have you heard of any updates that fix this soon?

Email from Charles

Not much to say but just putting this out there.

I really hope at blizzcon this year they announce overwatch on the switch. I haven’t heard anything since they said “it’s a possibility” in 2017.

Email from Joel

Hey Bill, heard you talking about 8 bitdo. I had heard nothing but wonderful things about their controllers so I bought an SF30 Pro for around $35. The D pad is horrid. Playing one of the Shantae games you have to run one direction, and then quickly switch to the other in order to activate a power, but when I switched Shantae would duck. It was super frustrating. On Tetris 99 I would be trying to move a piece left or right and it would suddenly drop costing me the game. I emailed and they offered to repair under warranty if I send it to China, which would cost around $23.

There are pockets of people complaining about this online, but so much praise out there that the complaints aren’t noticed.

Hey Bill,

One thing I think people are overlooking about the OG Switch is that it is supposed to be easily hackable. Because of that I intend to hang onto mine indefinitely, even after I upgrade to another model at some point. One day it will be an awesome portable way to play ALL of my retro favorites on the go as well as my Switch library.

On the latest lite Switch, you discussed wanting a normal Switch that sells without a dock. Well, in Japan they do have a skew that ships without one.
Now I guess they assume all Americans are snotty Xbox players that only play on the TV, (kidding of course) so they don’t sell it in America, but if you can find it cheap to import, it’s an option.

Thanks for the show!

Hi Bill,

Just wanted to send some quick thoughts on the Nintendo Switch Lite. I’ve been listening to a lot of feedback on your show and online and I’m surprised at how many seem down on the price and the new Switch Lite itself.

The name I get doesn’t make much sense now that it doesn’t dock—but the name “Switch” is so popular right now that of course Nintendo is going to keep the name. Plus, it so similar to the Nintendo Switch and plays almost all of the same games so I think changing the name would create too much confusion.

For the price—I think $200 is spot on. Nintendo is one of the few gaming companies that actually make money on their hardware. Dropping the price of the Switch Lite too low would basically kill sales for the actual Nintendo Switch. The $200 price tag immediately sounds more tempting than the $300 price of the Switch and many gamers won’t care about the dock, HD rumble or detachable joycon—they want to play the games that the Switch has to offer, without coughing up another $100.

Having said that—I think it won’t take long before the price of both the Switch and Switch Lite drop as the new Playstation and Xbox are released. I would imagine a new Switch Pro is right around the corner to compete with the announcements of the new consoles from their competitors.

I’m excited for the Switch Lite and I love the colors!! I already own a Switch but I’ll definitely be picking up a Switch Lite on release.

Thanks, Bill!! Loving the more frequent episodes 🙂

Hey Bill good morning:
I will make this short and sweet.
First I kind of got a curious question for. I been listening to your show since before switch was released. I actually was shopping for wii u at time when I saw a Facebook post about nx. That was a year and a half before release date of switch. So I been listening since than but I have unlimited data with T mobile and stream every thing and I know you always thanking people for downloading your show but do you get the credit for people who stream podcast with their data.

Now about the switch light correct me if i am wrong but if you have the OG switch and pay for Nintendo Switch Online would it be as easy as just uploading your save data from cloud backup and I think you could even use that method if you upgraded your sd card.
I am with a lot of people switch lite is not for me. I like playing on my TV and being able to play in bed.

I just thought I comment because tour last show someone had good idea leaving OG in dock and using the lite for undock mode.

Long time listener, big MUA fan.
Not sure how much experience you have with the series but the original MUA had alot of weird camera angles, even awkward and forced at times. They try to keep things fresh and give perspective depending on scenarios. I personally found heroic to be the best camera angle. If you have played hyrule warriors, also made by team ninja, it makes it feel more like their previous game. But the distant and weird forced angles are par for the course.
Keep up the good podcasting fellow New Yorker.

Initial thoughts on Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

Camera is horrible

The game shines in local multiplayer

I didn’t enjoy playing on Heroic difficulty, Friendly was way more fun. Ignoring the synergy stuff made the game a lot more fun as well.

The game does an extremely bad job of teaching you how to play.

I like it and will be playing more
