MarioKart Tour Beta Screenshots

Some resetera users are posting screenshots from the beta. It looks like the game uses a Gacha mechanic to unlock characters, here you can see that Luigi is a rare character.

Each character has a special ability, based on the map. For instance Toadette being used on 3DS toad circuit gives her 3 item slots in the race, but 1 in other maps. Luigi gets the 3-item bonus on the Luigi’s mansion map.

Main Discussion

Stadia and the mobile phone market (Gaming phones)

Story 1

Stadia will support a variety of business models

GamesBeat Summit

“We’re asking gamers to buy the game, not the platform.”

Phil Harrison

“our platform at a fundamental level has been architected to support a very wide variety of what people call ‘monetization options.’ Everything from purchase to transaction to subscription.”

Phil Harrison

there is no technical limitation on how we have architected the platform to support a variety of business models.”

Phil Harrison

“change the way game value is perceived by players,” “When a game is a link, the Internet is your store”

Story 2

Kojima is on board with Stadia

The future to come will begin finally. I have been saying for over 10 years, but at the time no one understood it. With “5G” and next “6G”, the evolution of technology will not stop. The world awaited finally is about to begin.
Now that 5G commercial services have begun, Google has announced a cloud gaming service, and Apple will also enhance game distribution.

As streaming advances further, video content such as games and movies and documentaries will be on the same track. This is the future I want most. What will happen if that happens? With Netflix etc., you will be able to select movies and games on the same screen. “Interactive games” and “non-interactive movies”, the quality of the content has been 180 degrees different so far, but the boundaries will disappear.
This movement has already come out. The video content “Black Mirror: Banders Natch” distributed last year on Netflix is so. The story goes on by the viewer selecting the action of the protagonist at the key point. I’m approaching an interactive game.

It’s definitely different. It will come out within 5 years when 5G spreads. Even with streaming, there is one big thing I want to do. I can’t say because I get so spoiled if I talk too much (laughs).
In the next five years, I think that entertainment will change with artificial intelligence (AI). AI will change what you are currently doing interactively. I talked earlier about streaming interactive content that I choose, but in the next five years, an AI that understands me may choose for myself.

Email from Trevor

Hi Bill,
I just wanted to add some questions/comments to your discussion of Super Mario Bros being ported to the C64.
You asked why did Nintendo wait 7 years?
1. Did Nintendo know about it before it was actually ported?

2. Maybe Nintendo did reach out to this person and they decided to do it anyways.

3. I also think Nintendo can’t look into every “project” people say they are working on.  Once that project is actually done then Nintendo has to jump on it.
Just some thoughts on this story.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Update

Happy Homeroom is now in session! The Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp mobile game just received a major free update that introduces Happy Homeroom, a newly added interior design mini-game where designers in the making can showcase their eye for creativity.

In Happy Homeroom classes, you use the furniture you have to practice your interior design skills. Your finished designs will be judged by Lottie and others, and if you pass Happy Homeroom classes, your HH Rank will increase, earning you items like the HH material and more. The HH materials can be used to make Golden Series furniture, which can be crafted after reaching Amateur Rank 1 in Happy Homeroom.

To access Happy Homeroom, you will need HH Vouchers, which replenish over time. Your Camp Manager Level must also be level 6 or above.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp recently incorporated several other additions and features to the game that give campers even more to do, including the following:

  • New Local Produce – Grapes, lemons and lychees are the newest local fruit to be added to the game. While each player has a Local Produce tree in both their Lost Lure Creek and Breezy Hollow locations, they will need to make use of other players’ Market Boxes to obtain the other two regional fruit.
  • Blathers’s Treasure Trek – A new mini-game that involves rolling a die on a map that resembles a board game. Treasure maps earned in this mini-game will reward bells or crafting materials. Special maps will even invite new animals to your campsite!
  • Pete’s Parcel Service – A new and handy way to level up your friendship with animals. By selecting this service, Pete will complete animal requests for you without you needing to visit their locations. What a nice pelican!
