Hi Bill:  I remember you said you bought a 400 gig S.D. card?  Was it the Sandisk extreme?  It’s $93 on Amazon…thanks for your time…

It was the SanDisk Ultra

Email from Vincent

Hey Bill- I had a thought about mobile ports. what would you think about Nintendo releasing their first party mobile games (Super Mario Run, Pocket Camp, Dr Mario world, etc) on the switch? The eShop seems to be flooded with mobile ports anyway, but Nintendo’s are noticeably missing. The only one that goes between the eShop and iOS is Pokemon Quest. It might be fun to play some of those games on the switch instead of on the phone- especially for those who done like touch screen controls.
Thanks

Hey Bill,

One thing I think people are overlooking about the OG Switch is that it is supposed to be easily hackable. Because of that I intend to hang onto mine indefinitely, even after I upgrade to another model at some point. One day it will be an awesome portable way to play ALL of my retro favorites on the go as well as my Switch library.

On the latest lite Switch, you discussed wanting a normal Switch that sells without a dock. Well, in Japan they do have a skew that ships without one.
Now I guess they assume all Americans are snotty Xbox players that only play on the TV, (kidding of course) so they don’t sell it in America, but if you can find it cheap to import, it’s an option.

Thanks for the show!

Hi Bill,

Just wanted to send some quick thoughts on the Nintendo Switch Lite. I’ve been listening to a lot of feedback on your show and online and I’m surprised at how many seem down on the price and the new Switch Lite itself.

The name I get doesn’t make much sense now that it doesn’t dock—but the name “Switch” is so popular right now that of course Nintendo is going to keep the name. Plus, it so similar to the Nintendo Switch and plays almost all of the same games so I think changing the name would create too much confusion.

For the price—I think $200 is spot on. Nintendo is one of the few gaming companies that actually make money on their hardware. Dropping the price of the Switch Lite too low would basically kill sales for the actual Nintendo Switch. The $200 price tag immediately sounds more tempting than the $300 price of the Switch and many gamers won’t care about the dock, HD rumble or detachable joycon—they want to play the games that the Switch has to offer, without coughing up another $100.

Having said that—I think it won’t take long before the price of both the Switch and Switch Lite drop as the new Playstation and Xbox are released. I would imagine a new Switch Pro is right around the corner to compete with the announcements of the new consoles from their competitors.

I’m excited for the Switch Lite and I love the colors!! I already own a Switch but I’ll definitely be picking up a Switch Lite on release.

Thanks, Bill!! Loving the more frequent episodes 🙂

Hey Bill good morning:
I will make this short and sweet.
First I kind of got a curious question for. I been listening to your show since before switch was released. I actually was shopping for wii u at time when I saw a Facebook post about nx. That was a year and a half before release date of switch. So I been listening since than but I have unlimited data with T mobile and stream every thing and I know you always thanking people for downloading your show but do you get the credit for people who stream podcast with their data.

Now about the switch light correct me if i am wrong but if you have the OG switch and pay for Nintendo Switch Online would it be as easy as just uploading your save data from cloud backup and I think you could even use that method if you upgraded your sd card.
I am with a lot of people switch lite is not for me. I like playing on my TV and being able to play in bed.

I just thought I comment because tour last show someone had good idea leaving OG in dock and using the lite for undock mode.

Long time listener, big MUA fan.
Not sure how much experience you have with the series but the original MUA had alot of weird camera angles, even awkward and forced at times. They try to keep things fresh and give perspective depending on scenarios. I personally found heroic to be the best camera angle. If you have played hyrule warriors, also made by team ninja, it makes it feel more like their previous game. But the distant and weird forced angles are par for the course.
Keep up the good podcasting fellow New Yorker.

Initial thoughts on Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

Camera is horrible

The game shines in local multiplayer

I didn’t enjoy playing on Heroic difficulty, Friendly was way more fun. Ignoring the synergy stuff made the game a lot more fun as well.

The game does an extremely bad job of teaching you how to play.

I like it and will be playing more

Hi Bill, on your show you were talking about Nintendo not censoring games and instead offering parental controls. Their parental controls are pretty anemic though.

Mario Maker 2 restricts all online interaction with parental controls, kids aren’t allowed to download levels or anything. My only choice seems to be to whitelist the game for my kids. The problem is user comments. I’m aware that some people will build inappropriate things into their levels, but that is much less common than inappropriate user comments. As a matter of fact on the very first level I downloaded there was one. I’m sure popular levels are more likely to have them.

I know comments can be turned off, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to restrict a user from turning them back on. It’s not a good situation. I couldn’t even find a way to report the comment, though I would think there must be one.

It’s a pretty sad situation when I can’t let my kids freely play Mario on their own. The internet isn’t going to change, so Nintendo should give us more granularity in the parental controls. They have a smart phone app dedicated to it, and aren’t doing much with it. I’m happy to have the choices we do on switch without censorship, but they need to give parents better tools (and folders to hide some of those game icons).

Hey Bill, you posed a question about WiiU ports that would still be exciting. I never owned a WiiU, and would be really excited for:

Windwaker HD
Pikmin Trilogy HD (or just 3 if I can’t get 1 and 2)
Super Mario 3D World

These next two probably don’t count because they aren’t exactly WiiU games, but:
Metroid Prime Trilogy HD
Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 HD

Any of these would make me very happy, as I’m not a big fan of most of the franchises Nintendo is putting out this year.

Nintendo Switch Tournament Series Continues During Nintendo’s Activities at E3 2019

After weeks of qualifiers and regional finals, the winners of the Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open 2019 and the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Open 2019 tournaments were just crowned at the PAX East video game convention in Boston. The four-player team FTWIN splatted its way to victory in the Splatoon 2 final event, while the three-person team from the Southeast region of the U.S., composed of Wrath, Devonte and Poltergust, smashed their opponents to emerge as the victors in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate finals. Poltergust won the final match using Yoshi.

But the finals at PAX East are not the end for this exciting series of Nintendo Switch tournaments. The winners of these tournaments will now head to Los Angeles to represent North America in the global championships for both Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The epic team-based Super Smash Bros. Ultimate World Championship 2019 3v3 and the Splatoon 2 World Championship 2019 tournaments will take place on Saturday, June 8, in Los Angeles. Both events will feature players from North America, Europe, Japan and Australia/New Zealand. More details about this exciting event, including how to attend or watch live online, will be revealed in the future. Keep an eye on e3.nintendo.com for more information.

“We will showcase some of the best players of some of our biggest games on a huge international stage,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Whether you’re cheering for a favorite player or you just love to watch top-level competitive play, you’ll see how these events highlight the Nintendo community and bring people together.”

For more information about these Nintendo Switch tournaments, visit e3.nintendo.com.
