Hi Bill, on your show you were talking about Nintendo not censoring games and instead offering parental controls. Their parental controls are pretty anemic though.

Mario Maker 2 restricts all online interaction with parental controls, kids aren’t allowed to download levels or anything. My only choice seems to be to whitelist the game for my kids. The problem is user comments. I’m aware that some people will build inappropriate things into their levels, but that is much less common than inappropriate user comments. As a matter of fact on the very first level I downloaded there was one. I’m sure popular levels are more likely to have them.

I know comments can be turned off, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to restrict a user from turning them back on. It’s not a good situation. I couldn’t even find a way to report the comment, though I would think there must be one.

It’s a pretty sad situation when I can’t let my kids freely play Mario on their own. The internet isn’t going to change, so Nintendo should give us more granularity in the parental controls. They have a smart phone app dedicated to it, and aren’t doing much with it. I’m happy to have the choices we do on switch without censorship, but they need to give parents better tools (and folders to hide some of those game icons).

Nintendo Announces Tetris® 99 Big Block DLC and Upcoming 3rd MAXIMUS CUP

Starting today, Tetris® 99 offers paid DLC that allows players to enjoy two new modes, both of which can be played offline. Nintendo also provided info about the next MAXIMUS CUP online event.

Big Block DLC
Players can get additional modes for Tetris 99 as they are released with a one-time purchase of just $9.99 for this DLC*. The initial included game modes are:

  • CPU Battle – Play Tetris 99 offline against 98 CPU players.
  • Marathon – Challenge yourself in this offline mode to clear the most lines and score big.

Information about additional upcoming game modes will follow at a later date.

As noted above, the CPU Battle and Marathon modes are played entirely offline. This means that any Nintendo Switch player without a Nintendo Switch Onlinemembership who wants to play Tetris 99 can do so by purchasing the Big Block DLC. Playing the game’s Tetris 99 online mode, however, still requires Nintendo Switch Online.

3rd MAXIMUS CUP
Starting on May 17, the next MAXIMUS CUP online event is available for all players with a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Like the last MAXIMUS CUP, this free event awards various points for each match played during the event period, even if they don’t come in first place.

The 3rd MAXIMUS CUP runs from 12 a.m. PT on May 17 to 11:59 p.m. PT on May 19. The higher that players place at the end of each match, the more event points they earn. Any participants who earn 100 event points during the three-day period will unlock an in-game theme inspired by the original Game Boy game. For more details about the game and the 3rd MAXIMUS CUP, visit https://tetris99.nintendo.com/.**

*The Tetris 99 game on Nintendo eShop is required to play.

**Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and Nintendo Account required for online play. Not available in all countries. Internet access required for online features. Terms apply. nintendo.com/switch-online

Adam from Cleveland again! A great game for Nintendo Labo would be…a DUCK HUNT remake. A 360 view would be unreal fun!

Email from Trevor –

Hi Bill,

Been a while since I last emailed you. Still never miss a podcast.  Listening to yesterday’s show now and heard you mention VR being better in first person. Astro Bot and Moss are two great games on PSVR both 3rd person games.

I agree that it’s silly Labo VR will have you hold to your face. I really want to check out Labo VR now that they announced support for Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW.  Where I wasn’t interested before. Im going to wait for reviews on this mainly because I’m not interested in holding this to my face for more than 5?minutes.

Love the show,

Trevor

Howdy!

What will it take for Banjo Kazooie to be released on a modern console like Switch?

Thanks,
